Questions, answered
Does Bobbin work on iPhone or iPad?
No. Chrome extensions don't run on iOS or Android, so Bobbin can't be installed on phones or tablets. It works in Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, Brave and other Chromium browsers on Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS computers. Safari and Firefox aren't supported.
Is Bobbin really free?
Yes. The free version has no watermark, no time limit and no limit on the number of videos, and records up to 1080p at 30fps. Pro is optional and only adds extras.
Where are my recordings saved?
On your computer, inside Bobbin's storage in your browser. Open the Library to play, download or delete them; downloads go to your normal Downloads folder. Removing the extension or clearing its data deletes recordings that you haven't downloaded, so download anything you want to keep.
Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
No. Bobbin has no servers for video, no account, no analytics and no trackers. The only network request it ever makes is checking a Pro license key with our payment provider, and only if you enter one.
Do I get MP4 or WebM? Will it play on a Mac or iPhone?
Bobbin saves MP4 where your browser can record MP4 (Chrome 126 or newer) and WebM otherwise. Files play in Chrome, Firefox and VLC on any computer. Recordings made on Linux can use Opus audio or VP9 video, which QuickTime and iPhones may not play; files from Windows, macOS and ChromeOS are the most widely compatible.
Can it record system sound?
Tab sound, yes: choose a tab in Chrome's share picker and turn on "Also share tab audio". Whole-screen system audio depends on your operating system: Chrome supports it on Windows and ChromeOS. On a Mac, share a tab to capture its sound.
Does the webcam show when I record a single tab?
No. The webcam bubble is a small always-on-top window, so it appears in screen and window recordings. A single-tab recording captures only that tab.
How long can I record?
As long as you like. There is no time limit; the practical limit is the free space on your disk.
How do I share a recording?
Download it from the Library and send it like any other file: Slack, Teams, email, Google Drive, Jira and so on. Bobbin doesn't host videos or create share links, which is exactly why nothing leaves your computer.
What does Pro add, and can I buy it now?
Pro adds 1440p and 4K, 60fps, webcam bubble size, shape, border colour and mirroring, an auto-stop timer, and custom file names with renaming in the Library. Drawing on the page is planned for a later update. Pro checkout is coming soon; until then everything in Free works fully.
